Flight a play of light

Be like the bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings.

about the exhibition

Flight: a Play of Light is a series of 38 panels created by nine artists in the spring of 2013 for the SOGH-ER corridor. This installation is the result of a partnership between Seven Oaks Hospital Foundation and Artbeat Studio: Studio Central. This is the 2nd exhibit to go up at SOGH, with a new exhibit rotating every six months. This project was facilitated by Artbeat Studio alumni artists Kelvin Free and Laurie Green.

In a series of workshops, each artist carved an individual print block of a bird in flight. The artists then collectively worked on a single background concept to illustrate the change of light from dawn, to daylight, to dusk so the viewer can experience the evolution of light & colour when walking along the corridor. The birds were then inked and printed onto the background.

The theme of the exhibit calls attention to the changing of the seasons and human beings’ fascination with birds in flight as they emerge from their winter slumber and forge into spring.
