Studio Central Art Program Director:  Artbeat Studio is seeking an administrator for the Studio Central Urban Arts Centre located at 444 Kennedy Street in Central Park.  Programming aims to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.  Art making that promotes social engagement is at the core of the Studio Central mission. Programming at Studio Central is volunteer driven and provides participants with opportunity for engagement with both visual and performing arts as a means of inspiring personal passion, building relationships, and bridging diverse groups.  The Art Program Director reports to Artbeat Studio’s Executive Director.

This is a full-time permanent position with a benefits package Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00am – 6:00pm. (Occasional evenings)


This position is for an artist (visual and/or performing) with strong administrative and leadership skills who has a passion for the inner city and the role participatory arts plays in community building and promoting social inclusion.


University Degree in a design related field (Fine Arts, Art Education, Architecture) Advanced degree is preferred. Minimum two years’ work experience with multi-cultural inner-city and vulnerable populations, including program development and promotion. Demonstrated small and large scale project development and personnel management. ‘Child Abuse Registry’ and ‘Criminal Record’ checks are required.


Implement and promote programs based on established goals with specific, measurable results. Ensure program quality throughout the year. Visual representations of typical program activities available at Studio Central Facebook.


Invite, enlist, orient/train, supervise and evaluate program volunteers. Facilitate focused and productive volunteer forums. Proactively and constructively address issues that may impact volunteers, participants and programming.


Develop, present, and maintain budget(s). Work collaboratively with staff to stay within established budgets. Ensure the program is managed consistently within grant requirements and funding constraints. Oversee supply management. Track and report on outreach and enrollment efforts.


Cultivate and manage strong professional relationships with participants, volunteers, and key constituencies.


Craft, review and revise program content for print, web, and social media. Proactively bring positive stories of participants, volunteers and staff to the Executive Director.


Working knowledge of MS Office suite, Adobe Design suite, database management  (Giftworks), file management on a local server accessed by a number of staff users.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Provides planning, scheduling, and promotions for Studio Central programming
  • Overseeing; Kaleidoscope On-Line Poetry, Facilitators Master class, Self-Directed Studio, Performance Rehearsals)
  • Manages inventory, storage and budget for tools and consumable materials for both on and off-site Creative Technique and Art Animation sessions.
  • Manages and maintains the ‘art work archives’ site
  • Supports ‘Community Project’ activity external to studio
  • Manages program supply requirements (cleaners, coffee, art supplies, etc)
  • Maintains open dialogue with Artbeat Studio’s  Executive Director
  • Manages Database (Giftworks, Volunteers, artwork database )
  • Updates  monthly ‘Activity Report’ with  program  stats, data and observations
  • Maintains accurate volunteer records and submits monthly EIA volunteer hours
  • Contributes to new and ongoing applications for program funding, reports and follow-up as required.
  • Reports on incidents that require follow up or external intervention (e.g. building security, police, pest control, inter personal issues, other)
